Tennessee Pistol State Championship

The 2011 Tennessee Pistol State Championship was held in Columbia, TN on September

24-25, 2011. This annual prestigious match pitted some of the country’s best shooters,

including the US Army’s All Guard team. The match turned out to be an epic battle and

when the dust settled, there were three main contenders: two of the US Army’s shooters

and a civilian, our very own Alan Barcon. The .22 caliber match was won by one of the

US Army shooters, putting Alan in second place (trailing by only one point out of a

possible 900 points). Alan stormed back in the Centerfire caliber match, winning by

three points and grabbing an overall lead of 10 points. The .45 caliber match and the

overall state championship came down to the very last target. Despite another US Army

shooter winning the .45 caliber match by 10 points, Alan was able to protect his overall

lead. Shooting an overall score of 2586 out of a possible 2700, Alan earned the title of

2011 Tennessee State Champion, his third state championship victory in the last four

years.

HARGIS MANAGES UPSET TO WIN

David Hargis managed to over come all takers to win the recent pistol match at the Bend of the River with a score if 2526-62X.
Hargis usually wins the pistol matches but some days he stumbles and fails to live up to his reputation.  This time he managed
an easy 19-point victory.  Greg Atchley came in second with 2507-65X.  Atchley had more center shots but just not enough
score.  Third went to Jack Kinney with 2428 and forth went to Marty Goodman at 2249

The weather was the best for all the matches this year.  The scores showed that it was a good day for shooting.  Jack Kinney
and Greg Atchley were able to shoot the whole match without using any pasters to cover holes off the scoring area.  Kinney
shot his best target in the timed rimfire at 98 and two targets later upped his best to 99 in the rapid-fire portion of the match.
Hargis and Atchley were tied after the centerfire and rimfire stages.  It was in the .45 stages that Hargis finally won.  There
was only one 100 fired.  Hargis had the good target in the centerfire time fire stage with 7 Xs.

The match consisted of 90 shots each with a .22 rimfire, any center fire and any .45 ACP pistol for a total of 270 and a possible
score of 2700.
This is the last scheduled pistol match of this year.  The next match at Bend of the River is a  3 Position at 50 yards smallbore rifle
match is on October 30th at 8:00 AM.
